Qualcomm and Netgear jointly launch MR1100 mobile router with 1Gbps speed

Netgear MR1100 mobile router with maximum wireless download speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Netgear and Qualcomm Technologies came together to implement the X16 Gigabit LTE modem into a usable device, and the result is the Netgear MR1100 mobile router. With the X16 Gigabit LTE modem, the MR1100 mobile router can achieve download speeds of up to 1Gbps.

“Since our founding in 1996, NETGEAR has led the industry in providing the world with the best-in-class connectivity experience,” said Andrew Green, Vice President of mobile network products for NETGEAR. “As the pioneer in creating the world’s first Gigabit-Class LTE mobile device, NETGEAR is proud to deliver incredibly fast fiber-like connectivity – wirelessly. NETGEAR is redefining what a mobile router can be and the experiences it can deliver.”

The router is one of the few partnerships by Qualcomm at bringing Gigabit LTE, which is an essential step towards developing 5G networks. Qualcomm is also working with Australian telco company, Telstra, to bring the world's first LTE network that can deliver download speeds of up to 1Gbps. Telstra's Gigabit LTE network utilizes infrastructure, equipment, and software from Ericsson to achieve these wireless speeds.

Live demo of the MR1100 showcased the throughput of the Gigabit-LTE device.

At the  Qualcomm 4/5G Summit 2016 in Hong Kong, Qualcomm had a live demo unit of the Netgear MR1100 mobile router showcasing its 1Gbps capabilities.
