PSA: 117 million LinkedIn emails and passwords leaked online

A LinkedIn hack from 2012 continues to cause problems for the company. Yesterday, LinkedIn confirmed that another data set from the hack, which contains 117 million LinkedIn members’ emails and passwords, is now being sold online.

According to a report from Motherboard, a hacker going by the name of “Peace” has been trying to sell the emails and passwords on a dark web marketplace for around 5 bitcoin (~S$3050). In total, the data set includes 167 million accounts, but of those, only 117 million or so have both emails and encrypted passwords.

LinkedIn has posted a statement to address the breach, and will be contacting individual members to let them know if they need to reset their password. Having said that, if you use LinkedIn, it's probably a good idea to change your password anyway, especially if you've had an account since 2012.
