PS4 Remote Play is officially available for the Sony Xperia Z3 series

Remote Play's available for all of the products in the Z3 line.

As Sony's promised, the Playstation 4 Remote Play is now available for all of the products in the Xperia Z3 series. These are the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact smartphones and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

To recap, Remote Play is the ability to remotely access your PS4 console via Wi-Fi or through the internet. You can then play games (games that require the Move or PS Camera aren't compatible) or access other functions of the PS4 this way.

Remote Play was originally available on the PSP (for the PS3) and then for the PS Vita (for the PS4). The PS4 to PS Vita Remote Play is significant as some games have specific control schemes for Remote Play, with varying degrees of success (Destiny for example, works really well). As the Xperia Remote Play videos all seem to use a separate controller for Remote Play, it seems this isn't an issue for the Xperia as games can use their default configuration. It's not possible for that on the Vita as the Vita is lacking some buttons present on the PS4 controller and needs to use the back and front screens as substitutes.

Reaching out to Sony, we've also confirmed that you need a PS4 controller to use Remote Play on its smartphones and tablets. Unlike the PS Vita's Remote Play, touchscreens are not supported.

As we reported previously, Remote Play may also be coming to the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet. Sony has since stated that more details regarding that will be revealed in the upcoming weeks, so hang tight!
