Prospects for NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 Processor Appear Promising, Performance-Wise

According to Tom’s Hardware, early benchmark results show that the newly launched NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor outperforms its immediate competitors by roughly 30%, as measured with 3DMark Ice Storm scores.

The team from Tom’s Hardware managed to run the said benchmark on the Lenovo Thinkvision 28, which was on display at CES 2014. They strongly believed that the device is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 chip. The closest competitors were the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and the NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors. In November last year, we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition that is powered by the Snapdragon 800. And our recent experience with the NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor was with the ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T. They did corroborate the neck-to-neck results of both Qualcomm and NVIDIA chips.

When questioned, the Lenovo staff neither denied nor confirmed the exact specifications of the Tegra processor that was present on the tested Lenovo ThinkVision 28. But like they say there is no smoke without fire, the initial benchmark results do show a promising start for the Tegra K1.
