Porsche 911 GT2 RS sets new Nürburgring world record
Porsche's new 911 GT2 RS has just set a new world record for the fastest production car around the famous 20.6km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
The 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful 911 ever. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six puts out 691hp and 750nm of torque. 0 to 100km/h happens in 2.8 seconds and it has a top speed of about 340km/h.
There's no doubt that 911 GT2 RS is a very fast car, but its performance exceeded even Porsche's expectations.
Porsche was hoping for a lap time just under 7 minutes 5 seconds. But the 911 GT2 RS ran an incredible 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds. You can see footage of the track record below:
That's nearly 18 seconds faster than what Porsche was expecting. This is also about a good 10 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder.
The record for fastest production car around the Nürburgring was previously held by the Lamborghini Huracán LP640-4 Performante, which lapped the Nürburgring in 6 minutes 52.01 seconds in October last year.
