First launched as an iPhone app last October, the Singapore Police Force recently released the Android version as an on-going effort to reach out to more smartphone users.
According to the Nielsen Southeast Asia Digital Consumer Report in Nov 2011, nine in ten Singaporeans are expected to own a smartphone by mid 2012 and the SPF feels it is timely to release an Android version for the public to have easy access to useful Police and crime information on-the-go.
Besides launching Police@SG app on Android, the SPF also rolled out PoliceLife@SG, the electronic version of its in-house magazine Police Life Monthly (PLM) on the iPhone. The current version of PoliceLife@SG for iPad sports a smoother, sleeker user interface with exclusive bonus audio-visual content to deliver a more enriching reading experience.
These latest developments reflect the SPF's ongoing efforts to make better use of technology to stay ahead of crime and deepen partnerships with the community. It is also looking at future enhancements to the Police@SG app which could include pop-up alerts and easier response to Police appeals for information.
Since its debut, the Police@SG app has been downloaded more than 65,000 times. Below are the download links for the respective apps if you have't done so:
