Polaroid is rising out of the ashes with yet another instant camera – the Polaroid Pop

Besides 3D printers and modeling pens, Polaroid has also debuted a new camera at CES 2017 – the Polaroid Pop. This revives the company’s classic 3X4” Polaroid instant print format, and according to Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid, “ the Polaroid Pop embodies the brand’s 80-year history; staying true to the Polaroid core values of sharing, instant, fun and ease-of-use, while pushing the envelope with a fresh form factor and the latest technology.”

The camera has an integrated digital printer that uses ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology to produce full color photos in 3x4” format with the Polaroid Classic Border Logo resulting in a 3.5x4.25” print. It comes with a 3.97” touchscreen LCD, a 20MP CMOS sensor, and even a dual LED flash for better lowlight images.

Video recording at up to 1080p Full HD is also supported, and the camera uses microSD (up to 128GB) for storage. As with all modern cameras these days, the Polaroid Pop is also app-supported. The camera has a dual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip for easy connection, and the app offers your usual assortment of creative filters, digital stickers, effects and controls.

What’s interesting is that the Polaroid Pop is going to offer three color modes – black and white, color and sepia – meant to offer you prints with the “true” Polaroid look and feel. Prints take just under a minute to complete, and the photos have adhesive backs so can be used as stickers as well.

The Polaroid Pop camera is targeted for release in Q4 2017, but pricing is not yet available.
