The Polaroid Cube+ is the next generation Polaroid Cube

The Polaroid Cube+ will come in a variety of colors.

Remember our CES 2015 article? In it, we pointed out the Polaroid Cube, a funky little camera in the shape of a cube that was Polaroid's entry into the action camera market. It's been nearly a year since the camera was available and we've just received word that the company is releasing the next generation of the product this August.

Like its predecessor, the new Polaroid Cube were designed by Ammunition. Their portfolio includes products done for brands like Adobe, Ferrari and Microsoft. Unlike other action cameras which are aimed at action junkies and sports enthusiasts, the Polaroid Cube is aimed at the everyday user who just wants to have fun taking pictures and recording stuff, all without buying an expensive camera.

The new generation of cameras will be called the Polaroid Cube+ ( the + is pronounced as plus) and will feature a host of improvements over the original generation of Cubes. Improvements include Wi-Fi, image stabilization, enhanced low light performance, and increased memory capacity (up to 64GB) for microSD cards. It'll also be capable of recording Full HD (1920 x 1080) videos at 60 frames per second and taking still images at 8MP resolution. There's even a new Polaroid Cube+ app being developed for iOS and Android smart devices. The app functions not only as a remote viewfinder, it'll also allow users to share their images straight to social media. Other features of the app will allow users to adjust settings as well as tweak and edit their images, all on the go.

Even with the new improvements, the Polaroid Cube hasn't lost its original appeal. It still only needs a single button for all of its functions and is still about the same size as the original, though it's a bit more pricey.

If you're interested in getting the Polaroid Cube+, you can pre-order the camera at its website. The camera is slated to come out at the end of August and will cost US$149.
