Plot to put bomb in iPad resulted in laptop ban on UK and US inbound flights
The laptop ban implemented last week on UK and US inbound flights was apparently prompted by a terrorist plot to hide explosives in a fake iPad.
A security source told The Guardian that other details of the plot such as the date, the country involved, and the group behind it, remain classified. However, the source stressed that the laptop ban was not the result of a single specific incident, but a combination of factors.
The discovery of the plot has alarmed intelligence agencies and security experts as terrorists seem to have found a new way to sneak explosives onboard passenger planes. If a terrorist manages to sneak past security and set off the bomb in the cabin near a window or door, the impact would be greater which is likely to lead to higher casualty rates.
Since exploding Galaxy Note7 units can set cars on fire and scorched the sub-floor of a plane, it's no wonder that the security agencies are taking the alleged terrorist plot seriously and enforcing the laptop ban.
