According to research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), it has predicted that Sony's PlayStation 4 will continue to outsell Microsoft's Xbox One. More specifically, it forecasts that Sony will sell 51 million units of its latest gaming console by 2016.
The latest reports say that Sony has already sold over seven million PlayStation 4 consoles, whereas Microsoft has sold over five million.
That said, IDC also said that it expects Microsoft to recover and lead in the North American market and that this comeback could be accelerated if Microsoft agrees to unbundle the Kinect sensor from Xbox One. Although the Kinect sensor is an integral part of the new Xbox One experience, it is currently also the main reason why the Xbox One is more costly than the PlayStation 4.
Finally, the IDC has also predicted that sales of physical games will decline by a whopping 45%. However, the industry will be kept healthy by games purchased digitally.
