Pioneer announces launch of new BDP-170 Blu-ray player with extensive connectivity options

More than your average Blu-ray player, the BDP-170 comes with in-built Wi-Fi connectivity, and offers Miracast streaming for smartphones and tablets.

A DNLA certified device, the BDP-170 enables direct access to YouTube and Picasa, and even supports YouTube’s ‘Send to TV’ feature, allowing you to push YouTube videos to a connected TV via your smart device. Because the BDP-170 runs on 802.11 b/g/n, it supports Wi-Fi Direct communication with Miracast support, allowing you to stream audio and video from your smart devices to the BDP-170.

The BDP-170 is Blu-ray 3D compatible, supports 36-bit Deep Color and has HDMI 1080p/24 Hz output. The player is also compatible with the latest Dolby and DTS surround codecs – Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio – and is equipped with a 2-channel 192 kHz/24 bit DAC.

New functions like 1.5X View Scan with Audio and Quick Start/Quick Tray operation makes the player easier to use. In the case of the former, it allows you to scan the contents of a Blu-ray disc while keeping the audio understandable, thus making it easier to jump to the part of the program you’re looking for.

With support for the high resolution Super Audio CD albums, and the ability to handle multiple file formats like 3GP, FLV, MPEG, AVI, WMV, FLAC, WMA, MP3, MKV and DivX + HD, the BDP-170 should be an audiophile’s delight.

The player can be controlled by the iControlAV5 app, which is available for free on both the App store and the Google Play store.

The BDP-170 is available now at all authorized Pioneer dealers for S$249.
