It has been 7 months since Xiaomi released its first tablet - the Mi Pad - and the Chinese company may be working on its successor.

Images of the alleged device, known as the Mi Pad 2, surfaced on Chinese social networking site Weibo. While the device has a different design compared to the Mi Pad, it sports the same display size at 7.9-inches and resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels.

What's more interesting about the upcoming Mi Pad 2 is the processor used. Unlike the current Mi Pad which is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, Xiaomi is said to have switched to an Intel 1.8GHz chipset for the Mi Pad 2. Other rumored specs include 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage space and MIUI OS built upon Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The Mi Pad is currently only available in China although Xiaomi had mentioned it has plans to bring it to Singapore. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, commented in July that he will accelerate plans to establish a tablet ecosystem to compete against Apple and its iPads. Releasing another tablet with limited availability is not the solution; bringing new products to international markets quickly may help Lei achieve his goal.
