Petfie partners Blk 2 Furever Canines to raise awareness on the plight of rescued shelter dogs

Launched mid last year, Petfie is a social networking and photo-sharing app created specially for pet owners and animal lovers.

Unique to Petfie is its "animal-centric approach" where users follow animal profiles instead of human user profiles. These animal profiles can be further categorized as pets or community lovers. The latter profile, which is managed by the community, can be used for social causes.

For example, Petfie is used by the Cat Welfare Society to earmark and identify community cats for sterilization. This allows volunteers to easily find out which community cat has yet to be sterilized and can help with the process.

On the left, we can see that there is a community cat that has been marked for sterilization. On the right, we can see that there is a cat available for adoption.

And at Blk 2 Furever Canines' shelter earlier today, Petfie announced a partnership that they hope will be able to bring greater awareness to not just the rescued dogs at Blk 2 Furever Canines, but also to all rescued dogs in general.

Blk 2 Furever Canines is a not-for-profit dog shelter located at Pasir Ris Farmway 2. Founded by Mandy and Mdm Tan, the shelters at Pasir Ris Farmway was started in early 2012. The shelters consist of three kennels and is home to 30 dogs.

You can find Bailey, Dinky, Oley, Sunny and Bravo by zooming into Pasir Ris Farmway 2.

As part of this partnership, users of Petfie will be able to see five featured dogs for adoption when they zoom into Blk 2 Furever Canines' shelters at Paris Farmway 2. The five dogs are Bailey, Dinky, Oley, Sunny and Bravo and they are all crossbreed dogs.

On Petfie, their profiles will show that they are marked for adoption. Users who are interested can view their profiles to see photos of them and learn more about their history. They can then reach out to the profile owners to find out more about the adoption process.

Mandy, one of the founders of Blk 2 Furever Canines said, "Street dogs experience stigma as most people assume they are 'wild and dirty', and not as handsome as pets purchased from shops, hence the unwillingness to adopt them. Leveraging on Petfie's network of animal lovers, we believe that these dogs would be able to gain a new lease of life."

As a dog owner myself for the past 10 years, I can attest to the above statement. Crossbred dogs are often mistakenly viewed as more aggressive and less lovable than purebred dogs and this is entirely untrue. Each dog has his or her own unique personality, and having spent the afternoon with the dogs at Blk 2 Furever Canine, I can say if you just give them a chance, you'd find that they are as sweet and lovable as any purebred dog.

In addition, Petfie has also announced that the long awaited Android version of the app will be available from next month onwards at the Google Play store.
