Patriot Memory Exiting SSD Business

Patriot Memory Exiting SSD Business

The SSD market has becoming increasingly crowded of late. Today, there are many major players ranging from big names such as Intel and Samsung to smaller ones such as Corsair and OCZ. In light of the fast changing and crowded SSD marketplace, Patriot Memory has announced that it will formally exit the SSD business to focus on its memory and accessories business.

The consolidation of the SSD market is one that has been predicted for some time, given that those with their own NAND production facility will have an obvious edge. In addition, not everyone has the capital nor know-how to create their own firmware much less their own controller, leading to many players relying on SandForce for controllers, thus resulting in a market place crowded with drives from many brands but with little in the way of differentiation.

It will be interesting to see who will be next to follow in Patriot's footsteps.
