Patriot has expanded its Viper 4 series of DDR4 memory kits with two-module kits clocked at higher frequencies. First unveiled at the start of the year, the Viper 4 DDR4 memory series was previously comprised of four- and eight-module kits available at speeds up to 3000MHz. The new Viper 4 kits will give consumers more choice when it comes to kitting out their new Skylake systems, and access to higher frequency 3200MHz and 3400MHz modules.

Given that the smallest Viper 4 kits used to include at least four memory modules, owners of small form factor systems and Z170 mini-ITX boards probably had to look to other brands for DDR4 memory. However, the new memory kits of two now puts Patriot back on the radar for Z170 owners with just two memory slots to work with.

The new kits will come in either 4GB or 8GB modules, available in capacities of 8GB and 16GB. In addition to the two higher frequencies, there are also lower clocked kits starting at 2400MHz.

The 3400MHz 8GB (2x4GB) kit runs at timings of 16-18-18-36 at 1.35V, slightly higher than the stock 1.2V specification of DDR4 because of the more aggressive frequencies. The 3200MHz kit has faster timings at 16-16-16-36, but also runs at 1.35V.

According to Patriot, each IC has been screened prior to building the modules in order to ensure stability. Prices range from US$64.99 to US$169.99, and the new kits will be available from major online retailers starting 4 September.
