The Parrot Disco is a fixed-wing drone that can fly up to 80km/h

Far from its name suggests, popular drone maker Parrot has showed off its prototype Disco drone that abandons the popular quadcopter design for a fixed-wing design. This makes the Disco drone much larger than most other consumer drones in the market, but it is also ultralight at about 700 grams.

In the process of designing this, they’ve also ensured that it’s the easiest to use drone ever.

You don’t even need a learning process according to the marketing material from Parrot. Just throw the flying wing and the auto-pilot will take over with its numerous sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, Pitot, GPS, etc.) to permanently control its flight path. In fact, the makers claim that controlling it will be just like playing a video game.

It has an excellent range and offers a flight time of up to 45 minutes. To have the best control experience, you’ll need to purchase the optional Parrot Skycontroller device and pair it with a tablet as your large eye in the sky. Speaking of which, the drone uses a 14MP front camera that’s mounted on its nose. And to reach its amazing top speed of up to 80km/h, it uses an 8-inch propeller on a high-speed engine at the rear of the craft.

The upcoming Parrot Disco fixed-wing drone. Though no price and availability has been set, it might go for up to US$700, but that's a wild guess from the reps at the show.

It is best controlled with this optional Parrot Skycontroller, though it's also compatible with an RC controller too. But to get a better range, you'll be better off to invest in Parrot's Skycontroller and a tablet to use as a large viewfinder.
