Panasonic’s new Lumix TZ100 is the first compact superzoom camera with a large 1” sensor.

While Panasonic’s FZ1000 with 16x optical zoom and Sony’s RX10 II with 8x optical zoom both pack 1” sensors, they’re both big bridge cameras you’d be hard-pressed to call compact. Canon’s PowerShot G3 X comes closest, with a 1” sensor and 25x optical zoom comes closer, but it’s still a big enough camera that you can’t slip into your pocket. With the TZ100, you can.

The TZ100 has a f/2.8-5.9 LEICA DC 25-200mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens, and records 4K video (3,840 x 2,160) at 24 and 30fps. The 1” sensor shoots at 20MP and has a maximum native ISO of 12,800, extensible to ISO 25,600. The camera also comes with Panasonic’s Post-Focus feature, which lets you choose the focal point of any picture, after it’s been taken.

There’s a built-in Live View Finder, with 1,166k-dot resolution, and the 3” rear LCD is a touchscreen with a resolution of 1,040k dots. The TZ100 has built-in 5-axis hybrid optical image stabilization to help you stabilize your shots, Wi-Fi to share your shots and the ability to save in raw to best preserve your shots.

The Panasonic Lumix TZ100 will be available in March, with a SRP of US$699.99 (approx. S$1,002.97).
