OtterBox Buys Rival LifeProof

OtterBox, the maker of popular rugged phone and tablet cases like the OtterBox Amor and Defender series, has announced the acquisition of TreeFrog Developments, Inc dba. LifeProof, another company that specializes in protective cases for smart devices (especially waterproof cases that don’t add a lot of bulk to the devices they protect) for an undisclosed sum. Over the next 30 days, OtterBox will begin incorporating the LifeProof brand into that OtterBox family. Details about product availability and alignment will be determined at the completion of the integration.

According to AppleInsider, OtterBox has filed a patent suit against LifeProof in August 2011; the former accusing the latter of infringing on four properties pertaining to protective device enclosures. With the acquisition, this case is now officially terminated.
