Earlier in January, OnePlus announced that it’s building its own Android 5.0-based ROM called OxygenOS, and more details would be shared come February 12. Since then, we’ve seen some leaked images of its UI, which were quickly debunked by OnePlus’ co-founder Carl Pei.

Well, February 12 has arrived, and the maker of OnePlus One has just revealed more information about OxygenOS.

First up, we now know that the OxygenOS team has over 50 engineers and testers. And many of the key members are also key figures behind Paranoid Android (another popular custom ROM), including Aaron Gascoine (co-founder of PA, OxygenOS technical lead); Arz Bathia (lead designer at PA, OxygenOS UI/UX designer); Carlo Savignano; Hieu Nguyen; and Jesús David Gulfo Agudelo (who are all involved in PA, and are now part of OxygenOS’ development team).

In his blog post, Carl Pei also reiterated that OxygenOS will not ship with any bloatware. In fact, a new logo is created for the ROM.

Carl Pei:

"OxygenOS is built with the same focus on quality and community-driven design that you’ve come to expect from our hardware, and the simplicity of our new logo extends to the software itself. We care about providing our users with the best experience, and we will never differentiate just for the sake of differentiation. We promise that any additional features will be non-obtrusive and extremely useful (tap-to-wake and customizable navigation buttons, for example)."

Of course, the more important question is when would OxygenOS arrive. To that, OnePlus says that due to the various certifications needed, this will take some time. The ROM is now in the testing phase, and the team wants to ensure that it’s “solid and stable” before making it available for download.

That said, in a Reddit AMAA session, Helen (who is leading and coordinating the OxygenOS team) has revealed that OxygenOS (first build being based on Android 5.0.2) would arrive “next month”.
