OnePlus 2 updates Singapore pricing while striking down grey imports
The Singapore team at OnePlus has kindly informed us that they’ve revised the official local pricing for their latest flagship, OnePlus 2. The updated recommended retail price is now S$598 including GST, for the 64GB version.
The update was officially in effect since 20 August 2015, at the smartphone’s official online retailer Lazada.sg. The online purchase from this third-party online retailer still requires the necessary invite from OnePlus, and it can be purchased from 14 September to 14 October 2015.
Adrian Lee, General Manager of OnePlus Southeast Asia, explained that the changes in pricing were because of a few factors, such as the changes in the USD-SGD exchange rates, and profit margin for OnePlus’s partners.
Previously, there was an S$780 OnePlus 2 listing on Lazada.sg which was confusing for members of the public who are interested in the device. This is actually a grey unit meant for the China market, which comes with HydrogenOS (not OxygenOS like ours) and no Google Services support.
“Those trader guys cannot offer our official 12-month warranty, and we do not honor those units bought from unauthorized channels,” explained Adrian. “It's a problem that happens with popular phone models as guys try to make a fast buck by flipping stock.”
The OnePlus team has since then notified Lazada and the listing is removed.
Despite the price change, the OnePlus 2 is still a tempting buy because of its flagship-level performance at half the typical flagship price. To know more, you can check out our in-depth OnePlus 2 review here.
