Olympus announces three new lenses: 25mm f/1.2, 12-100mm f/4 IS Pro, 30mm f/3.5 macro

Photokina 2016 is in full swing, and so is Olympus. In addition to announcing the next OM-D E-M1 Mark II flagship and an entry-level PEN E-PL8, they’ve also revealed three new lenses for Micro Four Thirds.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 Pro

The first is the astonishingly fast M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 Pro (50mm in 35mm equivalent). The lens has 19 lens elements in 14 groups, which Olympus says prevents aberration, distortion, and fringing.

It has a lightweight internal focusing mechanism with an MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) silent focusing and aperture mechanism for video capture. The lens is also dust-proof, splash-proof and freeze-proof. The 25mm f/1.2 will be available in October (US availability) for an estimated US$1,199.99.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100 f/4 IS Pro

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100 f/4 IS Pro (24-200mm in 35mm equivalent) is a compact and lightweight zoom lens that can maintain a constant aperture of f/4 from its widest to furthest focal length.

Built-in IS helps to maintain image sharpness, and the 12-100mm f/4 combines lenses to correct aberration and minimize color fringing, promise high resolution and edge-to-edge sharpness.

The 12-100mm f/4 lens is also weatherproof, with dust-proof, splash-proof and freeze-proof performance. It will be available in November (US availability) for an estimated price of US$1,299.99.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm f/3.5 Macro

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm f/3.5 Macro (60mm in 35mm equivalent) lens is designed for macro photography in a compact form. The 30mm f/3.5 provides a maximum image magnification of 2.5x (35mm equivalent) with a minimum focusing distance of 95mm (14mm from the end of the lens) and a minimum shooting field of 13.9 x 10.4mm.

The focusing speed has apparently been increased 20 to 30 percent faster over previous Olympus macro lenses (macro lenses are usually not known for their speed). The lens’ AF system has an MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism for silent and smooth AF and aperture operation for video shooters.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm f3.5 macro lens will be available in October (US availability) at an estimated price of US$299.99.
