Olympus adds 2 new lenses to its F1.2 series – a tele 45mm and a wide 17mm

Olympus has just announced the addition of two new lenses to its F1.2 series - The new M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO and M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO. Both give a maximum aperture of f/1.2, and are dustproof, splash proof, and freeze proof to -10oC so you can truly expect them to perform in all conditions.

Where the M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO stands out though, is in the use of an extra ED-DSA (Extra-low Dispersion – Dual Super Aspherical) lens. This lens allows Olympus to effectively compensate for various types of aberrations with significantly less elements, as it has the characteristics of both ED and DSA glass, thus allowing the 17mm F1.2 PRO to be lighter than what would normally be achievable.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO on the other hand, also uses 3 optimally placed and bonded lenses (including one ED lens) to compensate for out-of-focus color bleeding and peripheral color bleeding (magnified chromatic aberration).

Both lenses use the Z coating Nano technology first seen on the M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f1.2 PRO for sharp images with reduced ghosting and flare. They are also both equipped with a MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism which allows for fast, smooth, accurate and quiet focusing.

They also provide good close-up shooting capabilities, as the M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO has a closest focusing distance of 20 cm and a maximum image magnification of 0.15x (35mm equivalent: 0.3x), while the M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO has a closest focusing distance of 50 cm and a maximum image magnification of 0.1x (35mm equivalent: 0.2x).

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO will be on sale from November 2017, while the M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO will be on sale from January 2018. Both lenses only come in black, and can be found at all authorized Olympus retailers, though the RRP has not be announced. We’ll be sure to update this piece with the necessary information once we get word.
