OCZ Showcases Upcoming Vector 180 Series with the Latest Toshiba A19nm Flash

At Computex earlier this week, we caught a glimpse of OCZ's upcoming SSD that comes equipped with Toshiba's latest A19nm Flash part. We find it hardly surprising at all given that OCZ is now part of Toshiba, and it's quite logical that the parent company will be the main supplier of Flash parts for OCZ's next generation of SSD products.

The new A19nm NAND part from Toshiba is an 'advanced' Toggle 2 MLC Flash storage chip that boasts improved performance as well as greater bit density. Because of its more advanced cell structure, the Vector 180 series would be able to offer SSDs at double the capacity of its Vector 150 series, with maximum storage capacity going up to a whopping 960GB.

As you can see from the PCB of the new Vertex 180 series, it uses OCZ's proprietary Indilinx Barefoot 3 M00 controller as well as the new Toshiba A19nm NAND.

Like its previous Vector 150 series, the new Vector 180 series will also feature OCZ's proprietary Barefoot 3 M00 controller. Targeted at entry level server usage as well as hardcore enthusiasts, the new Vector 180 series touts slightly improved performance of up to 550MB/s and 100,000 IOPS. The drive also comes with power-fail capacitors that provides power long enough to flush data from its cache to the NAND Flash in the event of power failure.

Pricing and availability is not yet available.

On the flip side, the PCB is equipped with six power-fail super capacitors (in orange) that helps prevent data loss/corruption in the event of a power failure.
