NVIDIA has announced the availability of the GRID vGPU technology on VMware Horizon 6, which is built on vSphere. Essentially, this allows virtualized GPU access to end users, and this means a single GPU can be shared with multiple users, even over remote locations. On top of that, GPU computing capabilities can be scaled up to meet the requirements graphics-intensive apps like Autodesk and AutoCAD.

Now, with NVIDIA and VMware offering their Direct Access Program, companies will be able to “adopt VMware Horizon 6, and vSphere 6 with GRID vGPU technology”, with the help of professional technical support from both companies. Prior to this announcement, only users of Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenServer got to enjoy this distributed GPU computing technology on their virtual workstations. Now, VMware adopters can get into the grid.
