Noctua has announced the NH-C14S and NH-D15S, two new coolers designed to offer better RAM, PCIe and chassis compatibility. The new coolers are based on the designs of the existing NH-C14 and NH-D15 coolers, and the ‘S’ suffix indicates that these are single-fan coolers. They feature various tweaks and modifications to take into account their single-fan design and allow for superior compatibility with a wider range of hardware.

Like the NH-C14, the NH-C14S is a C-type cooler, which means that the entire cooling fin stack has been rotated 90 degrees such that its broader side is parallel with the motherboard. The single-fan setup provides greater flexibility and the fan can be installed on either side of the fin stack to reduce the overall height of the cooler or provide greater RAM clearance.

This will allow users to maintain compatibility with RAM modules of up to 70mm in height or keep the height of the cooler to just 115mm, depending on which side you install the fan on.

In order to compensate for just having a single fan, Noctua has opted to go for a deeper fin stack to increase the overall surface area for heat dissipation. The cooler will come paired with Noctua’s own NF-A14 PWM fan, which has a maximum speed of 1,500rpm. And as it’s a PWM fan, users will gain finer control over the fan and be able to adjust the speeds for better cooling or lower noise.

The dual-tower NH-D15S is an asymmetrical version of the NH-D15 and its fin stack is offset toward the upper edge of the motherboard to ensure that it does not block the top PCIe slot on micro-ATX and ATX motherboards. This fixes one of the flaws of the original NH-D15, which ended up obstructing the topmost PCIe slot quite often.

Its lower fins are also slightly more recessed than those of its predecessor, and it will accommodate memory modules up to 65mm in height. It ships with a single NF-A15PWM fan sandwiched between the dual towers. But unlike the retail version of the fan, this version can spin at up to 1,500rpm, up from 1,200rpm on the former.

In addition, the new cooler can accommodate an additional fan (140mm/120mm) with 120mm mounting holes using the included set of extra fan clips. However, this will reduce the RAM clearance to just 45mm. Flexibility is again the motto of the day here as users will be able to set the cooler up according to their needs.

Both coolers utilize Noctua's SecuFirm2 mounting system and will support all recent sockets from Intel and AMD. For a full list of support sockets, please visit the Noctua's website for the NH-C14S and NH-D15S.

The NH-C14S is currently shipping and will be available shortly at US$74.90. The NH-D15S is slightly pricier at US$79.90 and will ship in June.
