Nintendo Switch sold more than 1.5 million units globally in first week
In the first week alone, the new Nintendo Switch console has sold more than 1.5 million units on a global scale.
According to Ars Technica, a data compilation done by games research firm SuperData indicated that 110,000 Switch consoles were purchased in France, with 360,000 sold in Japan, 85,000 in the U.K., and 500,000 in the United States.
The 1.5 million sales figure is a modest rounding-off, considering how the remaining 445,000 units are European estimates, with no numbers attached to sales that happened in Asia. Currently, approximately 89.3% of these purchases also bought the Switch’s headlining game title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The figures above are first-week sales, and this puts Nintendo firmly on track for their target of 2 million Switch units sold by the end of March 2017. However, Ars Technica cautioned that this is not indicative of the console’s long-term growth, citing possible setbacks like controller connection issues, dead pixels, and a dearth of new AAA game titles or exclusives.
