Update on 17th July 2017: Pricing and availability.

The latest Nikon Coolpix W300 is a mass-market digital camera for people who are in tune with the great outdoors. More specifically, it is compatible for recreational scuba divers who frequent popular diving spots in our region.

As a diver’s best friend, it has a water tolerance of up to 30m in depth. The Coolpix W300 doesn’t require a separate underwater housing, too. It’s capable of withstanding the cold of up to  −10°C, and it adapted the shock-proofing characteristics from the preceding Coolpix AW130.

As a camera, it comes with 24-120mm (35mm equivalent), f/2.8 aperture lens that supports 5x optical zoom. Its Dynamic Fine Zoom mode digitally increases the maximum zoom up to approximately 10x. The Coolpix W300 uses a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that’s supported by Vibration Reduction (a proprietary image stabilization technology by Nikon).

For shooting footage, the camera supports up to 4K UHD movie-recording (3,840 x 2,160 pixels resolution) at 30 frames per second (fps). There’s AE-lock for the times when the shooter is moving into differently-lighted environments (for example, above ground to underwater). There’s also support for time-lapse and superlapse recording as well.

Additional quality-of-life features include SnapBridge support (for posting directly to social media), and both pre-focus and target-finding AutoFocus. There’s also a LED light built in, which can be handy in darker shooting conditions. The full specifications sheet can be found on Nikon’s official website.

The Nikon Coolpix W300 is available in four colors - Camouflage, Orange, Yellow, and Black. Official pricing and availability in Singapore have yet to be announced.

(Updated on 17th July 2017): the Nikon Coolpix W300 is finally available in Singapore, at S$689.
