Nike unveils real self-lacing Back to the Future MAG sneakers

Back in 2011, Nike released the MAG, the shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II. There was only one problem, unlike the shoes seen in the movie, Nike’s version didn’t have self-lacing power laces. Today Nike fixed that problem.

The 2015 Nike MAGs look exactly the same as the 2011 release, but this time around there’s a hidden battery-powered mechanism that automatically cinches the sneaker’s laces tight once you’ve inserted your feet. Apparently there's a manual option too, but you don't buy shoes like these just to tie your laces yourself like some kind of caveman.

Nike delivered the first pair of the new MAGs to Marty McFly himself, Michael J. Fox. The rest of the highly limited edition run will be auctioned off in early 2016, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. If you're thinking about picking up a pair, know that the original shoes were also auctioned off, with the cheapest pair going for US$2,300.
