During the launch of the Apple Watch Series 2 in September, Niantic went onstage to demo a Pokémon GO app for the wearable. Although it promised to release the app at the end of the year, there is still no information on its availability other than it is "coming soon". 9to5Mac claims to know the reason behind Niantic's silence on the matter.

9to5Mac's sources claim that Niantic is planning to unveil its own wrist wearable which is licensed and branded for its games. It is said that Niantic will launch an Ingress model first although there have been discussions about a Pokémon GO model.

Selling a wrist wearable to play its game makes more financial sense for Niantic than to release a free Pokémon GO app for Apple Watch users.  Would the company launch both products next month?
