Google Photos app currently offers all users free unlimited storage for your photos and videos up to 16-megapixels and 1080p respectively. If you want to store original quality or full resolution content, you have to make do with whatever storage space you have or buy additional storage space. For Nexus users, this choice may no longer be an issue in the next version of Google Photos.

Android Police did a teardown of the Google Photos app which was updated recently and found some interesting tidbits. The Android Police team found a specific line of text that describes Nexus users enjoying "unlimited free storage for original photos and videos uploaded from your Nexus device". There are also hints of new features coming for Google Photos such as:

  • new options for sorting albums via newest first, oldest first, and recently added
  • device folders moving to album view
  • exposure and contrast controls for photo editing

If Google really brings these new features to the Photos app, there is another reason for you to get a Nexus device aside from its speedy software and security updates.
