Next iPhone to Launch in October with 1GB RAM and A5X Processor?
The latest rumor on Apple's sixth generation iPhone points to a possible launch in October. In addition, a prototype of the new iPhone equipped with the A5X dual-core processor and 1GB RAM is said to be currently undergoing testing.
According to BGR, Foxconn's Head of Human Resources at the Taiyuan factory provided details about the launch during an interview with South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper. The Foxconn employee commented that the company had just received the order and the new iPhone will be released around October.
9to5Mac also learnt that Apple has internally seeded a prototype of the next generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design in order to throw off leaks. The prototype, labelled N96 internally, is reportedly running on a variation of Apple's latest A5X dual-core processor which debuted in its new iPad.
As the A5X dual-core processor is built specifically to power the new Retina display of the new iPad, it is logical that Apple is testing a modified version for use in the iPhone. The iPhone prototype is also equipped with 1GB RAM. So far, there have been conflicting reports on the design and the launch of the new iPhone.
Late last year, iLounge's source indicated that the next generation iPhone will come with a 4-inch screen. 9to5Mac claimed that a source at Foxconn in China revealed that Apple is testing different prototypes at the factory and the new iPhone is likely to be launched in summer. The prototypes are said to share several similarities such as a minimum screen size of 4-inch, longer and wider design, and a totally different form factor from the iPhone 4/4S.
Earlier last month, an unnamed industry source told Maeil Business Newspaper that Apple has opted for a 4.6-inch display on the new iPhone and will supposedly be launched within Q2 2012. However, iMore cited information from its source that the next generation iPhone is on track for a release in October and will retain the 3.5-inch display although it hasn't been finalized by Apple.
