Google is likely to debut its second generation Nexus 7 at the I/O 2013 in May, which will see a switch in processor from NVIDIA to Qualcomm. ASUS is reportedly still the maker of the tablet.

Quoting information from sources in the upstream supply chain, DigiTimes claims that the next generation Nexus 7 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The switch is due to the processor's communication chip process, which Qualcomm currently has a lead over other chip makers.

Although NVIDIA has narrowed the gap with its launch of its Tegra 4i processor, the new chipset is only expected to arrive in the market towards the end of the year. As a result, NVIDIA is estimated to lose almost 8 million processor shipments in 2013.

The current Google Nexus 7 runs on NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and comes in both Wi-Fi only and 3G models. Besides the alleged introduction of the tablet, Google is also rumored to announce the "X" Phone.
