The New York City Department of Education says yes to Chromebooks
With more schools in New York using Google Apps for Education, it's no surprise that the New York City Department of Education has approved the use of Chromebooks in public schools. Hal Friedlander, the Chief Information Officer of New York City Department of Education, said that Chromebooks were given the green-light because they were "an affordable, manageable option for learning". The fact that many schools are already using Google Apps for Education makes it easy to integrate Chromebooks into existing systems. While no specific brands or models were named, Mr Friedlander has stated that the New York City Department of Education has worked with OEMs to make sure that the Chromebooks meet its specifications.
