Last week, it was reported that Spotify had a drive-writing bug that could potentially shorten the life of your drive, especially if you were using an SSD.

Leaving the Spotify app on would cause it to continuously write junk data to your drive. According to reports from users, Spotify could write as much as 10GB in under an hour, or over 500GB in a day.

This could affect SSDs, which have a limited lifespan that is determined by the amount of data written to it.

Although Spotify hasn't issued an official statement yet, it seems that there is a fix to this problem.

In a statement to Ars Technica, Spotify has said that this bug has been fixed. A Spotify spokesperson said:

We've seen some questions in our community around the amount of written data using the Spotify client on desktop. These have been reviewed and any potential concerns have now been addressed in version 1.0.42, currently rolling out to all users.

Spotify also said that this update will be rolling out to users soon. And if you haven't received it, please manually update your version of Spotify to prevent any more junk data being written to your drive.

Remember, the version number you want to keep a look out for is 1.0.42.
