New Standalone YouTube App is Ready for Download

Just last month, we reported that Apple will discontinue the native YouTube app with iOS 6. They are doing so because the license to use the YouTube app in iOS will be expiring.

As such, YouTube has been hard at work developing their own standalone app for iOS devices and it is finally here. The new app is finally here and available for download through the App Store.

According to YouTube, the new app promises to be quicker and offers more functionality. The design is very similar to its Android counterpart and with a quick swipe to the right, you'll reveal a menu of your subscribed channels and the channel guide. That aside, close captioning is supported, and YouTube has improved the search function to offer recommendations as you type.

The app is currently available only for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. YouTube is still working on optimizing the app for iPad, which should be available in the coming months.
