The writing has been on the wall for a while now. With some of the biggest hardware manufacturers of smartphones using Google's Android as the operating system, it's no surprise that the mobile OS has been recording dramatic growth in adoption.
A Nielsen report has the OS grabbing 27% of new smartphone buyers in the U.S., beating the 23% figure for the iPhone. Overall, BlackBerry remains the top operating system with a 33% share. Meanwhile, another report by Canalys claims that Android grew by an amazing 886% in Q2 from the previous year, with 34% of the U.S market. Of course, the dramatic growth is due partially to the small user base that Android started with, but it is still quite a great improvement.
