Raspberry Pi has announced its third-generation Raspberry Pi model and direct successor to the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. According to the company, the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B offers up to 50% more performance than the Raspberry Pi 2, allowing it to take on even more demanding applications.

The single-board computer is the first 64-bit computing board from Raspberry Pi. It features a Broadcom BCM2837 SoC, which includes a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Network connectivity is provided by a BCM43438 combo connectivity device, enabling built-in support for 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

As a result, there’s no longer any need to search for add-on USB dongles for wireless connectivity, making it a better hub device for hooking up other Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled sensors.

The credit card-sized computing board is targeted for use in IoT development projects and other similar applications in industry, homes, and schools across the world. But in order to ensure backward compatibility and minimum disruption to existing projects, it will still utilize 32-bit versions of Raspbian or the NOOBS (New Out Of the Box Software) installation manager.

It is available to buy now from RS Online for just under S$55.
