New Octa-Core Intel i7 Extreme Edition CPU to be Launched in 2H 2014

Intel has officially announced the new Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition, the company’s first true octa-core desktop CPU. Naturally, you expect this to trickle down from the Xeon line-up as has been the case for Intel's Extreme processors for the last few generations. Not only is it a true 8-core CPU, it still has Hyper-threading support, so that means this beast can crunch up to 16 simultaneous thread processes! It is slated to be available by the second half of this year.

Also popularly codenamed as the Haswell-E processor, Intel will also launch X99 chipset that is the next generation chipset to support the new processor. Collectively, the new desktop platform will offer support for DDR4 RAM - the first Intel platform to jump to the next generation memory standard.

The new Haswell-E processor will replace the existing Ivy Bridge-E processor that was launched in September 2013.
