The new Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum might be one of the most customizable mice ever

Logitech has announced the G900 Chaos Spectrum, its latest flagship that features a plethora of customization options that should satisfy the majority of gamers out there.

For starters, the G900 Chaos Spectrum features modular buttons – similar to the Roccat Nyth – that can fit both right-handers and southpaws. The thumb buttons on the side are even removable, and you can easily replace them with a simple flat surface. This also solves one of the biggest issues with ambidextrous mice, where you end up accidentally pressing the buttons on the opposing side with your pinky.

The optical sensor is a PMW3366, the same as that found on other Logitech mice like the G502 Proteus Spectrum. It can track between 200 to 12,000DPI and reportedly features no smoothing or filtering across the entire range. This ensures that your mouse movements translate onto the screen accurately – so if you miss that easy shot, it’s on you.

In addition, Logitech has introduced a new design for its buttons, which includes a metal spring tensioning system and mechanical pivoting hinges built into the left- and right-click buttons. The company says that this reduces the pre-travel distance between buttons and switches, and also decreases the actuation force required. This in turn allows for faster recovery after each click, which might translate into more actions-per-minute in theory.

The mouse can also function in both wired and 2.4GHz wireless modes. Logitech is even claiming a 1ms report rate to help appease those skeptical of wireless connections. Unfortunately, we have no way of attesting to the supposedly lag-free experience until we get our hands on the mouse. There has also been a focus on power efficiency, and the G900 is rated for up to 30 hours of continuous use, or 24 hours with the default lighting enabled.

Speaking of the lighting, you can use the Logitech Gaming Software to choose from a palette of up to 16.8 million colors and a range of illumination effects.

One other notable feature is the G900’s weight, or the lack of it. At 107g, it is impressively light for a wireless mouse. To put things in perspective, other wireless gaming mice like the Razer Mamba and Steelseries Sensei Wireless weigh around 125g and 120g respectively. Logitech combed through every inch of the mouse to search for ways to reduce its weight, even drilling down to details like the thin wall molding and scroll wheel that ditches the conventional solid design in favor of a hollow design resembling bicycle spokes.

The G900 Chaos Spectrum will begin shipping in April and will cost a hefty S$249.
