Ahead of Google's I/O event next week, an updated interface for Google Maps has surfaced which removes the sidebar and focuses on the map itself rather than its various navigational components.
First reported by Google Operating System, an unofficial Google news blog, the updated user interface shows that the current Google Maps sidebar will be replaced with a series of boxes with information and pictures laid on top of a full screen map.
There may also be some other design changes coming, including updates to Google Maps' icons, text styles, and the colors of the map itself. A date for the revamped UI hasn't been revealed yet, however, with Google's I/O event scheduled for next week, that looks like a likely candidate for an official announcement.
