The New Delicious Introduces Stacks (But Not Everyone is Happy)

A revamped Delicious.com introduces Stacks, a new way to group and share links.

Delicious Stacks (sounds like 'delicious snacks?') lets you group a collection of links around a common theme, add descriptions, images, and publish them to share with others. Here's a video of it at work:

After being acquired by Yahoo in 2005, the once popular bookmarking site Delicious was sold to Avos Systems, a company founded by two of the three co-founders of YouTube, earlier this year. In December 2010, Delicious had appeared on a leaked Yahoo presentation slide, in which the service was listed as part of 'sunset' products, prompting users to speculate that Delicious was going to be killed.

Later on, Yahoo officially stated that it was not planning to shut down Delicious, rather that they were planning to sell off the property. YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steven Chen then bought Delicious in April 2011, and announced plans to "take on the challenge of building the best information discovery service on the web."

Besides Stacks, the new Delicious sports a redesign, both in terms of looks and use. Some updates from the Avos announcement include:

- Site navigation is simpler, and many redundant features have been consolidated
- Bookmarks are now called links, but they mean the same thing
- Any links previously marked private in Delicious will remain that way
- We’re still supporting all Delicious APIs and feeds, with more on the way
- Multiple-word tagging is now possible (“San Francisco”); tags are separated with commas
- Profile pics are now supported, with more social features to come

Not everyone is happy about the revamp. ReadWriteWeb calls it a 'bitter disappointment', and a user on What is Six Sigma bemoans not just the new changes, but the fact that Avos has removed the Delicious forums so feedback about the redesign can't be addressed.
