As a follow up to the recently conducted in depth analysis of Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms (noting their respective strengths and weaknesss), Symantec published a blog post investigating a staged download method used by two newly discovered Android threats, Android.Lightdd and Android.Jsmshider.
Symantec - One such strategy is to separate the malicious package into staged payloads. The idea is simple: instead of having one payload that carries all of the malicious code for any given attack, break the threat into separate modules that can be delivered independently.
