New and Improved AR.Drone 2.0 Propels Virtual Reality Gaming to Greater Heights

Parrot has announced its newly enhanced virtual reality gaming experience with the AR.Drone 2.0. First mentioned here, the new AR.Drone 2.0 boasts the following upgrades and refinements:-

  1. HD Wide Angle Camera: camera resolution has been improved from 640 x 480 to HD 1280 x 720 pixels.
  2. HD Recording: on top of taking pictures with the two embedded 93-degree wide-angle diagonal lens camera, you can record in HD
  3. Instant Sharing: users can upload their videos to YouTube or share pictures on Picasa conveniently via the user-friendly UI
  4. USB Plug-in: larger recording storage allows for longer videos
  5. Multiple Compatibility: now compatible with Android phones as well
  6. Improved gaming experience: AR.FreeFlight 2.0 (available on both the App Store and Google Play) comes with a new Heads-up display; menu with added options; new pilot settings adjustable according to preferences
  7. Lighter, more stable structure: 20g lighter (with hull) from the original version; added foam to isolate inertial center from the engines' vibrations; indoor protective EPP hull reinforced with injection by a metal rod
  8. Relative and Absolute Flight mode: the pilot becomes the reference point which enables flight control with absolute reference and dynamic wind estimation
  9. Pressure sensors on-board: Stabilization which autocorrects and maintains a still position in the air regardless of altitude and wind up to 15m/h
  10. New and exclusive features: Acrobatic - barrel rolling; and a new gyroscope that allows sharper and more dynamical piloting maneuvers

Priced at S$449, the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is compatible with the AR.Rescue 2.0, a FPV (first-person view) piloting game in augmented reality which is played solo using an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Another new game, the AR.Race 2.0, will be available soon.
