The new 911 R is Porsche's love song to purists
Porsche makes a lot of different models of the 911, but the one that sits at the top of hill is arguably the 911 GT3 RS. It is the raciest 911 from Porsche. However, the last model disappointed some fans because it was not made available with a stick shift.
Up until the last model, the 911 GT3 RS was always available with a manual transmission, so to omit it entirely was a bold move on Porsche's part. And one that we are guessing must have alienated many of its fans.
Fortunately, it seems that Porsche has realized the ills of its way and are attempting to make up to purists with the new 911 R.
You see, apart from having the same naturally-aspirated 500hp 4-liter flat-six engine as the 911 GT3 RS, the 911 R also comes with a manual transmission. Nay, it is only available with a manual transmission. This is a 911 for purists. For drivers who want to be in full control.
Furthermore, at 1370kg, the 911 R is 50kg lighter than the already very light 911 GT3 RS.
In terms of performance, since it doesn't have a fixed rear wing, the 911 R is slower to 100km/h but boasts a higher top speed. 0-100km/h takes 3.7 seconds and top speed is 323km/h.
Only 991 units will be made and we are sure it'll sell out very quickly. What we are not so sure, however, are those red racing stripes.
