Netflix's offline viewing function comes to Windows 10
Late last year, Netflix finally allowed users to download TV shows and movies to watch offline. For months that functionality only surfaces in the iOS and Android app, but as noted by Paul Thurrott (and subsequently confirmed to us by Netflix), Windows 10 users who downloaded the latest version of the app now get to enjoy offline viewing as well.
Expectedly, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure how this works in the Netflix app for Windows. Like the mobile apps, TV shows and movies that support offline viewing will simply have a download link prominently displayed. There’s also an “Available for Download” section for finding content easily, because not everything in Netflix’s catalog is available for download. (Editor's note: A quick check revealed that most of Netflix's original content is available for download.)
As we mentioned before, downloads for offline viewing make sense now that Netflix has expanded internationally to over 190 countries. While streaming is great, being able to download the content for later viewing may be better for customers in some of these countries who don't have reliable access to high-speed internet.
