Seagate announced its first 10TB helium-filled drives earlier this year, right around CES 2016. These high capacity drives were designed specifically for enterprise and data center use.

And now, just about four months after, Seagate has just announced that it has began volume shipping of these new high capacity drives.

These new 10TB drives contains sealed helium into the drive and because helium is considerably less dense than air, it reduces friction and helps create a less turbulent environment for the spinning platters.

In addition, Seagate claims that its 10TB helium-filled enterprise drives features the industry’s lowest power and weight for maximum space efficiency at the lowest energy usage, and will help companies significantly lower their total cost of ownership.
