NEC launches new MC series projectors designed for classroom and office use

If you’re shopping for new portable projectors for classroom or mid-sized meeting room use, NEC Asia Pacific has just announced five new models from its MC series. Lamp-based and using LCD tech, these new projectors aim to satisfy users who are cost-conscious but yet demand high functionality from their projectors.

The new MC series projectors are:

  • MC301X - 3,000 lumens, XGA
  • MC331X - 3,300 lumens, XGA
  • MC331W - 3,300 lumens, WXGA
  • MC371X - 3,700 lumens, XGA
  • MC421X - 4,200 lumens, XGA

Since NEC expects the MC series projectors to be used mainly in schools and offices, it has equipped them with features such fast startup (6 seconds), auto power on/off, and automatic keystone correction. Also, direct wireless connectivity is offered through an integrated Simple Access Point function, which enables multiple devices to connect to the projector without the need for an additional router. (Note: while an RJ45 port comes as standard, wireless LAN requires a separately-sold dongle.) This allows users to send content and audio wirelessly from their notebook, tablet, or smartphone using NEC’s free Image Express Utility Lite (Windows and Mac) or Wireless Image Utility (iOS and Android). The new MC series also adds a multi-screen projection function to allow the sharing of screens from multiple devices on various split-screen displays. Content from up to 16 network connected devices can be projected on the same screen.

A variety of input terminals can be found on the MC series projectors, including dual HDMI and USB. And they all support a USB Display mode that allows presentations and images to be sent from source to projector via just a USB cable. Additionally, all the models sport a high-powered, 16W monaural speaker. NaViSet Administrator–2, a piece of software that enables centralized monitoring, asset management and control of multiple devices, also comes free with the MC series.

To prolong the lifespan of the lamp, the MC series projectors also come with Eco modes to reduce power consumption. With Eco mode disabled, the lamp lasts up to 4,000 hours; with at highest Eco setting, this goes up to 10,000 hours.

I’m checking with NEC on local pricing and availability of the new MC series projectors, and will update this piece once I’ve further info.
