The impending release of Intel’s sixth-generation Skylake processors, which will finally bring DDR4 memory support to the mainstream, has led some to predict that DDR3 memory is now on its last legs. Nevertheless, it looks like Mushkin is betting on DDR3 still being around for a while more as it has just released its ECO2 series of enthusiast DDR3 RAM.

However, even though they’re targeted at the performance market, the new kits will not require you to break the bank to get them. According to Mushkin, the ECO2 memory line is aimed at budget-conscious enthusiasts who want to maximize their gaming and user experience.

The new modules feature a low-profile design for better compatibility with even the largest CPU coolers. If you’re looking to overclock your memory, you’ve likely overclocked your CPU as well and slapped on a fairly large cooler, so the low-profile design definitely makes sense.

The ECO2 RAM sticks are protected with black and silver aluminium heat spreaders. Given that this is a budget enthusiast product, memory clock speeds and latency are quite subdued. The modules are clocked at 1600MHz and rated to run at 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.35V.

Available kits and their prices are listed below:

  • ECO2 4GB: US$26
  • ECO2 8GB: US$50
  • ECO2 8GB (2x4GB): US$52
  • ECO2 16GB (2x8GB): US$85
  • ECO2 32GB (4x8GB): US$191

Mushkin says that each RAM module is hand-tested on motherboards before being shipped out and will be backed by a lifetime warranty. The ECO2 memory modules are now available on Newegg.
