Microsoft's Surface Phone Alleged to Ship in Mid 2013
Although Microsoft shot down news of a Surface phone in June, it did not stop the rumor mill from churning out another round of reports that the phone does exists.
According to DigiTimes, the Surface phone is alleged to ship in mid 2013 and Foxconn is tipped to be the manufacturer of the device. Foxconn is also rumored to be making the Amazon smartphone. In addition, its sources claimed that both the Surface and Amazon smartphones will initially have a limited shipping volume.
If rumors turn out to be true, Microsoft may upset its mobile partners. Apparently, some of its OEM partners such as Acer were taken aback by Microsoft's move to unveil its own tablets.
Microsoft has four mobile vendors supporting its Windows Phone platform - Nokia, Huawei, HTC and Samsung. It remains to be seen how they will react if Microsoft decides to take things into its own hands and release a Surface phone.
