Microsoft Will Give You US$200 for Your iPhone

To do battle with its competitors, Microsoft has never been shy to use its huge cash reserves. Previously, it was reported that Microsoft is offering US$200 for used iPads in return for store credit that can be used to purchase their Surface tablets. In the latest bid to increase market share of its Windows Phone OS, Microsoft is now extending this buyback program to the iPhone.

As part of its #timetoswitch campaign, Microsoft will offer up to US$200 in-store credit for anyone who trades in his iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. The credit can be used to purchase a new Windows Phone or other items in the Microsoft store. (This iPhone buyback offer is however only available in the US, and Microsoft currently does not have plans to expand it overseas.)

Apple is not the only target Microsoft has in its sight. It also launched an online campaign that will let consumers trade in any Apple, Android or Blackberry device for a Visa gift card.

Will this succeed or fail? Only time will tell.
